A true vine, related to the grape, that climbs by curling tendrils and will cover a trellis or fall out of a hanging pot at a rate few houseplants match. The leaves are glossy, toothed and held in threes, and the whole plant has a slightly bronze cast when it is growing well. It suits an office or a landing better than most climbers because it does not need bright light, and it is non-toxic to cats and dogs, which pothos and philodendron are not. Its one weakness is powdery mildew in still air, so give it room and do not crowd it against a wall. Pinch the tips to keep it branching and take cuttings in spring.
